Mitzvah Day
Sunday, May 18, 2025 • 20 Iyar 5785
11:00 AM - 4:00 PMA distinguishing aspect of Judaism is that it is a religion of action. It’s not enough to simply have faith; we are commanded to act on that faith - to observe the commandments (mitzvot) and do good deeds. In that spirit, we are happy to be bringing Mitzvah Day back to KKBE. On Sunday, May 18, we will gather as a community to take part in a variety of volunteer opportunities to pray with our feet and give back to our community. These opportunities are available to ALL members of the community, children to adults, singles to families, members of KKBE and beyond. Just imagine our impact if we can ALL do a single mitzvah on that day!
Volunteer Activities (Registration Required Below)
1. Greeting Cards
Participants will make cards to send out to KKBE's congregants to celebrate High Holy days, to recognize special birthdays and anniversaries, and to home bound congregants. Cards will also be made to be included with the no sew fleece blankets that are being made for donation to the LowCountry Orphan relief.
CAPTAIN: Carol Antman. No Limit to Participants
2. Baking Class
Preparing, packing and donating food to people in the community. There will be two shifts of baking, one shift from 12-2 (Full), and another from 2-4, and we will also need volunteers to deliver the baked goods. Baked goods will go to Ronald McDonald House, Hope Lodge, Fisher House and 1-80 place.
CO-CAPTAINS: Sara Benfield and Leslie Archer. 8 person limit per shift. 3 people needed for deliveries.
3. No-Sew Fleece Blankets
Help make soft no sew fleece blankets for donation to LowCountry Orphan Relief. Each blanket takes about 1-2 hours to create, and can be prepared in teams of 1-4. Materials will all be supplied.
CAPTAIN: Marilyn Gordon. No limit to participants.
4. DONATIONS FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE ON-THE-GO MEAL BAGS
Families don't often have the time to prepare a meal while traveling back and forth from the hospital. We will be collecting approved items for the RMHC On-the-Go Meal Kit Program in the designated box in the KKBE lobby. See an approved list of items HERE. Please drop off items in the drop off bin in the lobby and help assemble them into meal bags on Mitzvah day.
CAPTAIN: Sheila Winnett and Sara Benfield. No limit to participants.
